Easkey Right, the Irish professional surfer and social entrepreneur, founded her eponymous inclusive surf gear brand in 2016 after more than ten years traveling to remote coastal communities to document barriers that kept women, trans and non-binary people, and disabled surfers out of the water. She spent those years interviewing hundreds of surfers who struggled to find wetsuits, board shorts, and rash guards that fit their bodies or respected their identities, and she kept running into the same pushback from major outdoor brands when she pitched inclusive product lines. After being repeatedly told by major outdoor brands that inclusive surf gear was a niche market with no profitable demand, she decided to build the product line herself out of a repurposed fishing shed in her hometown of Easkey, County Sligo, using only recycled neoprene and organic cotton for all initial prototypes. She worked with a small team of local sewers and adaptive surfers to test fits and features, adjusting torso panels, adding compression support for post-surgical surfers, and including discreet pockets for medical supplies in every base layer design.
