The Story

Nuts.com traces its origins to 1929, when Poppy Sol opened a corner nut store in Newark, New Jersey. For decades the family business operated as a local retailer under the name Newark Nut Company. The brand remained modest until the early 2000s, when Jeffrey Braverman left his finance career to join the family business and begin a digital transformation.

Jeff's entry coincided with a pivotal moment. The store was generating roughly $1 million in annual sales, but faced competitive pressure and limited growth as a brick-and-mortar operation. His vision was to take the same product-quality ethos that had sustained the business for three generations and scale it through e-commerce. Rebranding to Nuts.com marked a deliberate shift from local retail to national direct-to-consumer distribution while keeping the company privately held within the Braverman family.

Headquartered in Cranford, New Jersey, the company operates manufacturing and fulfillment facilities in the same region where it was founded. Nuts.com now sells thousands of SKUs online, including raw and roasted nuts, dried fruits, chocolate, trail mixes, and snack assortments. The product line is anchored by a quality-control philosophy that Jeff developed during the early days of personally inspecting shipments and answering customer emails. That hands-on approach became a competitive moat in a category where Amazon dominates volume but often lacks curation.
