Shazi Visram's Bio
Shazi Visram is an American entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist who has built mission-driven brands championing maternal and infant health. Born to immigrant parents and raised in a motel in Alabama, she credits her entrepreneurial parents for instilling grit and resilience. She earned her BA in History and Visual Arts from Columbia University in 1999 and later completed her MBA in Management and Entrepreneurship from Columbia Business School in 2004.
While at Columbia Business School, Visram was inspired to launch Happy Family Organics after a friend expressed guilt about not being able to make homemade baby food. She started the company in her tiny NYC kitchen in 2006 with homemade recipes and a vision to democratize organic nutrition for families. Under her leadership, Happy Family grew into the #1 organic baby food company in the U.S., making organic food accessible to new families.
In 2013, Visram sold a 92% stake in Happy Family to Groupe Danone, a strategic alliance that brought more than 100 products to market in 34 countries. She continued as CEO until December 2017, when she transitioned to ChairMom of the Board to pursue new opportunities. During her tenure, President Barack Obama recognized her in 2013 as an outstanding businesswoman and leader.
In 2021, Visram launched HealthyBaby as the evolution of her mission to protect and enrich every child's developmental potential. The company became the first EWG-certified baby care brand, offering non-toxic diapers, wipes, and cleaning products. Today, Visram serves as a Senior Advisor at Cue Ball Capital, mentors entrepreneurs through NFTE, and sits on the board of the Environmental Working Group.
