The Story

Garrett Wymore and Caroline Buck launched Petaluma in 2019, after spotting a glaring gap in the pet food market. Most commercial dog food relied on factory-farmed animal products tied to high greenhouse gas emissions, animal welfare concerns, and inconsistent quality. They set out to prove that dogs could thrive on a completely plant-based diet built on science, not tradition.

Buck, Petaluma's co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, brought both personal conviction and marketing expertise. Her own shift toward veganism led her to search for a pet food brand that matched her values, but none did. That frustration became Petaluma's founding premise: nutrient-complete, oven-baked dog food without compromise on health, animal welfare, or environmental responsibility.

Every recipe is formulated by veterinary nutritionists and meets AAFCO standards for complete adult dog nutrition. The company bakes and dehydrates its food rather than using high-pressure processing, and it sources organic, whole food ingredients from producers in Petaluma, Sonoma County, and Northern California, tying the brand to its namesake city's agricultural heritage.

Petaluma sells direct to consumers, keeping the supply chain transparent and the product fresh. It earned Certified B Corporation status as one of the very few B Corps in the pet industry. Wymore's goal is to build a trusted, evidence-based company whose nutrition benefits dogs, the planet, and the people behind the brand.
