Alex Plante's Bio
Alex Plante is the owner of Kin Loch Farmstead, Western New York's first lavender farm, located in Lockport along the Niagara Wine Trail. The farm began in Spring 2018 when Alex and her husband Ryan planted 2,000 lavender plants on their 30-acre plot, transforming former farmland into a thriving lavender oasis and event venue.
Before embracing agriculture, Alex built a career in corporate marketing in New York City. Six years ago, she and Ryan made the bold decision to leave their urban lives behind and return to the land, drawing on neither of their farming backgrounds but a shared desire to connect with nature and build something meaningful.
The farm's name, Kin Loch, comes from Gaelic words meaning "family" and "lake"—a reflection of the Plantes' hope that their property becomes a gathering place where families can celebrate life's special moments between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Alex's vision extends beyond growing lavender; she has created an immersive experience where visitors can harvest their own lavender, learn about the plant's 2,500-year history, and find peace among the purple blooms.
Today, Kin Loch Farmstead hosts weddings, corporate events, and lavender u-pick days each July. Alex continues to expand the farm's offerings while staying true to its mission: providing a beautiful, meditative escape and passing on the values of hard work and appreciation for nature to her children and community.
