Gregg Renfrew's Bio

Gregg Renfrew is an American entrepreneur and the founder of clean beauty brand Beautycounter, launched in 2013. She previously co-launched U.S. operations of The Wedding List, which was acquired by Martha Stewart in 2001—the first acquisition under the Martha Stewart Living brand.

After learning about the toxic chemicals used in many beauty products, Renfrew decided to take on the industry with a new brand focused on safe, non-toxic cosmetics. She created a list of 2,800 harmful ingredients that Beautycounter would never use, and hired a head of mission to lobby for better regulation of the personal care sector.

Beautycounter grew to a $1 billion valuation and was acquired by Carlyle in April 2021. Renfrew stayed on briefly before being asked to step down as CEO. After being completely out of the company for nearly a year, the board asked her to return as CEO in December 2023, which she accepted.

Renfrew is recognized as a true pioneer of the clean beauty movement for more than a decade. She's based in Santa Monica, California, and is driven by a simple mission: getting safer products into the hands of everyone.
