Jessica May Walker's Bio
Jessica Walker founded Five Dot Post Greeting Cards in 2017 after her husband Tommy was diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. Working part-time at a New York gift shop, she noticed the cancer card aisle was entirely serious - nothing with warmth for people in their twenties and thirties. She started sketching her own designs, printed five cards at home, and opened an Etsy shop with $150 in supplies. Sales took off; within six months she quit to run the business full-time.
By 2019, card sales covered their household in Vancouver, Washington. Walker relaunched the original Better and Company shop as Five Dot Post in 2021, named for the five tiny tattoo dots Tommy received during radiation - she got matching dots on her arm as a reminder they were in this together. Tommy died in November 2021. The Today Show covered Five Dot Post after a video of his surprise vow renewal for Walker went viral, and Cindy Eckert's Pink Box put the cards in front of dozens of celebrities. By December 2022, Forbes profiled Walker in a feature on how she disrupted the greeting card industry.
Five Dot Post now carries over 350 designs through more than 200 retailers and hospital gift shops across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., with a distributor covering 13 Asian markets. A portion of every sale goes to esophageal cancer research. Walker also hosts the "xoxo-jess" podcast and created an online course for aspiring greeting card entrepreneurs.
