John Rarick
John Rarick is the owner of Cantina di Rosina, an organic vineyard and winery in southern Abruzzo, Italy. His family produced wine in the region since the 1800s, and after World War I devastated his grandfather's vineyards, Rarick returned to Italy to continue the family winemaking tradition.
John Rarick's Bio
John Rarick's family history in Abruzzo stretches back to the 1800s, when his ancestors were major producers of fine wine in southern Italy. The family's winemaking legacy was interrupted by World War I, when his grandfather returned from the war to find the vineyards devastated by disease, including a vine plague called phylloxera that affected much of Europe.
After the war, the family made the difficult decision to abandon the vineyards and emigrate from war-torn Italy to the United States in search of a better life. They settled in Philadelphia, but the connection to the land and the winemaking tradition remained strong across generations.
A century later, John Rarick returned to his family's ancestral village of Carunchio to carry on the winemaking legacy. He re-established Cantina di Rosina as an organic vineyard and winery, assembling a world-class team of agronomists and oenologists to pay tribute to the beautiful Abruzzo region and produce wines that are approachable, elegant, and capture the spirit of the land.
