Julia Hartz's Bio
Julia Hartz is the co-founder and CEO of Eventbrite, a global ticketing platform empowering millions of event creators. She led the company from startup to a 2018 IPO and champions entrepreneurs and women in tech.
Born in Santa Cruz, California, Hartz graduated from Pepperdine University in 2001 with a BA in Telecommunication. Her early career included a stint at MTV as a development executive on Jackass (2001-2003), followed by a role at FX Networks where she oversaw The Shield, Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, and 30 Days until 2005.
Hartz co-founded Eventbrite in 2006 with her then-fiancé Kevin Hartz and Renaud Visage, nine months after their engagement. She served as President, building the company's culture and product, before becoming CEO in April 2016 when Kevin stepped back to investing.
Under her leadership, Eventbrite went public in 2018—making her one of few women to lead a tech IPO—and navigated the COVID-19 pandemic when live events halted. The platform now serves millions of creators across 12 countries with 700+ employees, democratizing access to live experiences worldwide.
Today, Hartz serves as Executive Chair while leading the events industry. She sits on the boards of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and UCSF's Board of Overseers, and invests in companies like Minted, Chairish, and Color Genomics. Her awards include Fortune's 40 Under 40 twice, Inc's 35 Under 35, Fortune's Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs, and Aspen Institute's 2018 Henry Crown Fellow.
