Marc Lore's Bio
Marc Lore is an American entrepreneur, investor, and the founder, chairman, and CEO of Wonder Group, a food-delivery startup valued at $7 billion.
Born in Staten Island on May 16, 1971, Lore showed an early talent for numbers — classmates called him the human calculator. He graduated cum laude from Bucknell University in 1993, completed the CFA program at Columbia, then left Wharton's MBA to pursue an e-commerce venture.
His career began in investment banking at Bankers Trust and Credit Suisse First Boston. In 1997 he co-founded GARP, the risk management association behind the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification held by 50,000 professionals. In 1999 he launched The Pit, an online collectible marketplace, which he sold to Topps for $5.7 million in 2001 and then ran as COO of WizKids.
In 2005, Lore co-founded Diapers.com with Vinit Bharara out of a New Jersey church basement. Amazon acquired Quidsi for $545 million in 2011, and Lore spent two more years at Amazon before founding Jet.com in 2014 with $140 million in pre-launch funding. Walmart bought Jet for $3.3 billion in 2016, and Lore served as president and CEO of Walmart U.S. eCommerce through 2021.
In 2018 Lore founded Wonder Group, a chain of virtual restaurant food halls. Wonder raised $500 million in 2021, acquired Blue Apron in late 2023, bought Grubhub for $650 million in late 2024, and closed a $600 million round in May 2025 at a $7 billion valuation. Lore plans to take Wonder public in 2028
