Tony Xu's Bio
Tony Xu is the co-founder and CEO of DoorDash, the largest food delivery platform in the United States. DoorDash connects consumers with their favorite local businesses across 27 countries, transforming how people eat and live.
Xu's family emigrated from China to the United States in 1989, settling in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. His mother ran a Chinese restaurant, an experience that later shaped his understanding of local businesses and the challenges they face. He earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research from UC Berkeley in 2007.
Before launching DoorDash, Xu worked at eBay and PayPal. In 2013, he co-founded DoorDash with Stanford classmates Andy Fang and Stanley Tang. The idea emerged from observing small restaurants struggling with delivery logistics. Under Xu's leadership, DoorDash grew from a campus-focused startup to a publicly traded company (NYSE: DASH) after its 2020 IPO, which made him a billionaire.
Xu serves on DoorDash's board and remains deeply involved in product and strategy. He delivered the 2024 commencement address at UC Berkeley and received the 2025 Singleton Next Generation Prize for Excellence in Business Leadership. As a Chinese-American executive, he's become a prominent voice in tech and philanthropy.
