K. Becker Designs
K. Becker Designs is a women-owned clothing brand founded by RISD graduate Kimberly Becker. The company creates comfortable, flattering women's apparel produced in U.S.-based cooperatives with a focus on slow fashion and sustainability.
The Story
Kimberly Becker founded K. Becker Designs in Woolwich, Maine in 2023 after a career as a textile designer and training as a haute couture embroiderer at Ecole Lesage in Paris. A 1990 graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, she worked in cotton mills across America before launching her own label with a clear mission: to serve women over 40 with high-quality clothes that a fast-fashion industry has largely ignored.
The brand makes garments in small batches using deadstock fabric, sourcing the material from Japanese and Italian mills with excess inventory. Every piece is produced in U.S.-based cooperatives, from Brooklyn's on-demand 3D knitwear studios to local Maine makers. Becker designs and leads the business herself, handling everything from creative direction to customer relationships.
K. Becker Designs sells direct-to-consumer through its website and in-person events. From year one to year two, the business doubled its sales. The brand is featured in Maine Crafts Association's STITCH 2025 Runway and Style Market and maintains a woman-owned, sustainable ethos throughout its operations.
