Chip Carter Gaines's Bio
Chip Carter Gaines (born November 14, 1974) is a television personality, contractor, and author best known as the co-owner and co-founder of Magnolia, the lifestyle brand he built with his wife Joanna. Based in Waco, Texas, Chip and Joanna started renovating homes together in the early 2000s, flipping roughly 100 houses before landing their own HGTV series.
Fixer Upper premiered in 2013 and ran for five seasons, turning Chip into a household name. His easygoing demeanor and hands-on approach made the show a hit, but the real success was the brand it built. Magnolia grew from a local renovation business into a multi-platform empire that includes Magnolia Market at the Silos, a retail and dining destination that draws tourists nationwide, as well as the quarterly Magnolia Journal magazine, which became a New York Times bestseller.
Chip has authored several books on business, family, and design, and he and Joanna launched their own Magnolia Network in 2022 after leaving HGTV. The brand now spans furniture, real estate development, and hospitality—including a restaurant and hotel in Waco. Chip remains actively involved in construction projects, media production, and the day-to-day vision of Magnolia, balancing hands-on work with executive leadership of the growing empire.
