Colleen King

Colleen King is the owner and operator of Hala Gear, a Steamboat Springs-based company designing inflatable paddleboards for whitewater and recreational use. She acquired the brand from founder Peter Hall in May 2024, transforming it into a focused, high-performance outdoor company.

Born and raised in Steamboat Springs, King graduated in 2010 from Steamboat Springs High School where she was a standout athlete. She studied Environmental Science and Psychology at the University of Essex in England. Before Hala Gear, she worked as a franchising expert, honing the business skills that would define her career.

King spent six years at Hala Gear working alongside Peter Hall, mastering every facet of the business. When the pandemic left the brand's future in jeopardy, she purchased Hala's assets, trademarks, and patents on May 28, 2024, forming Steamboat Paddlesports, LLC to carry the legacy forward.

As owner, King oversees strategy, product, marketing, and operations. She's committed to focusing on Hala's core river line while preserving the brand's authentic connection to whitewater paddling. Today, Hala Gear continues to design and build durable, performance-driven inflatable SUPs from its Steamboat Springs home, with King leading the charge into the brand's next chapter.
